Peter Morris was born and raised in Pembroke. Although downhill skiing is the only passion he recalls from his earlier years, music is the constant in his life. He began piano lessons at his own insistence at the age of six, and although he and the keyboard never really got along, he did stay with it throughout his youth. He reached Grade 9 level Conservatory and even serveda brief stint as church organist. His formative years saw him excel locally as a "boy soprano", anpeter morrisd later as a violist.

When the time came to apply to university, Peter's first thoughts were for drama or literature. Saner minds and/or fate prevailed and he enrolled at Ottawa University in MusicEducation. At some point his interest shifted more toward performance, and he eventually "upgraded", taking a fifth year of performance courses. During these years Peter's development as a musician and as a teacher were influenced profoundly by his teacher, Lazaro Sternic, and by a friendship and collaboration of some 18 years with former DRSO conductor, James Wegg. Peter was principal viola with Nepean Symphony and director of its educational activities for many years. (He also was a regular visiting player with the DRSO for at least fifteen years).

With the demise of the Nepean Symphony in 1992, Peter and his family were forced to look elsewhere, and elsewhere became Deep River. Living and working in "the valley" have been rejuvenation for Peter, and have provided many highlights and opportunities for musical and personal growth. He has conducted the DRSO, the Valley Festival Orchestra, and the Kincardine Music Festival Chamber Orchestra and has worked with the production teams of "Annie", "L'il Abner", "Jesus Christ Super Star" and “Evita”. He continues to teach violin, viola, and cello privately, and directs the Summer Music program in Deep River. He has also adjudicated music festivals in London, Kitchener-Waterloo and North Bay. Most recently, he has begun visiting classes at Morison Public School on a weekly basis to bring singing, and a little musical knowledge into the lives of these young people.
